Safe boating on Leslie Dam

Now and then we are asked, if the current dam level is safe for boating. No one is more suitable to answer this question than Andrew Gale, our local boat and jetski licence provider:

"Leslie Dam is OK to use at any level with caution. 15 % is no worse than 50 or even 100%   The problem  to be aware of with Leslie Dam is not so much stumps but the natural rocks.
These rocks are all over the dam and can be exposed or just under the surface at almost any level the dam is at.  if you look around the sides of the dam you can see the natural rock formations everywhere.
I have hit stuff out there from 90% down to 5%, fortunately not at high speed.
My policy is to stick to the middle of the dam and not to travel at speed close to the banks especially up the dam wall end and also where you go into the most southerly bay in front of the council camping area.
The good bit is that if you stick to the middle the water is up to 50ft deep and would probably average 20-30 feet in most places.
I operate my boat licensing boat all over dams in SE qld and follow the same basic policy with sucess everywhere.
Good luck and give me a call if I can help you more.  I'd even be happy to show you a few bad spots if you are out on the dam one day when I'm there. (most days)"
